Wales’s Radio Queen Invited To Buckingham Palace

Helen Bowden, the Managing Director of Swansea’s VoiceBox, has been invited by Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth, to attend a Buckingham Palace Garden Party.

Speaking of her invite, Mrs Bowden said: “I feel honoured and tremendously excited to be invited along to such a quintessential British event. Anyone that knows me will already I try to emulate the Queen and have two birthday’s of my own!”

The Queen caught the headlines last week when her Invictus Games video, which also featured Prince Harry, went viral. Mrs Bowden has joked that she plans to offer Her Majesty a tip or two about localising her future videos with VoiceBox’s subtitles for foreign markets: “I loved the Invictus video exchange between the royals and the president and first lady. However, if they’d subtitled the video they could have had an even greater international reach.”

Mrs Bowden, who’s attending tomorrow’s Garden Party in recognition of her positive impact on the South Wales community, added “It’s fair to say that, no matter what birthday celebrations I have, the Queen’s Garden Party is likely to be the most special party I attend all year!”

The Buckingham Palace Garden Parties serve as a means to recognise and reward those who have contributed to public service. Having spent over 23 years in broadcast radio, Mrs Bowden – considered by many as ‘The Queen of Welsh Radio’ – is the former Managing Director of The Wave and Swansea Sound.

At each Garden Party, around 27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake are consumed! Garden Parties are an important way for The Queen to speak to a broad range of people from all walks of life, all of whom have made a positive impact in their community.
