Great News for Recyclers in Rhondda Area!

Recycling is about to get even easier thanks to a brand new Community Recycling Centre (CRC) opening in Treherbert on 29th February 2016

The new CRC has been funded as part of the Council’s ongoing £12m investment in priority areas such as leisure, play areas and highways.

The new recycling facility is being delivered as part of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s ongoing commitment to continue to increase recycling rates across the County Borough.

Once opened, residents in upper Rhondda will benefit from a modern, easy-to-access facility that will cater for all their recycling needs!

From February 29th, the centre will accept a variety of materials including white goods, cardboard, clothing, plastics, light fittings, wood, glass, metal, engine oil, fluorescent tubes, plasterboards, old toys, paint, old tv’s and lots more. The on-site attendants will also be checking all items received and ensuring that they are reused where possible.

Councillor Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Culture said: “We are committed to increasing recycling rates in RCT and continue to support and introduce measures that ensure we, with the support and co-operation of our residents, reach and exceed the recycling targets set for us.

“We are delighted to announce that a new Community Recycling Centre will soon be opening that adds to the range of measures we as a Council have already introduced to support and encourage our residents to recycle as much as possible. These measures also include free weekly dry and food waste recycling collections and nappy recycling.

“We must continue to make recycling as easy and convenient as possible for residents so they can continue to recycle as much as they can, helping us to protect the environment, reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and avoid the large fines that will be imposed on us if we don’t reach the targets set for us.

“We are hoping the introduction of this new facility in Rhondda will support our residents in recycling and further demonstrates our on-going commitment to maintaining a cleaner, greener RCT.”

Last year Wales reached its statutory target of recycling 52% of waste collected and the next recycling target is 58% of waste collected by local authorities in 2015/16.

Recent provisional recycling figures show residents are continuing to support the Council’s recycling drive by recycling over sixty percent of its waste – placing Rhondda Cynon Taf in the top quartile for recycling.

In addition to the soon to be opened, new centre in Treherbert, the Council also boasts six other CRC’s in the following locations across the County Borough:

  • Ty Amgen, Llwydcoed CF44 0BX
