Men jailed for stealing high-value building equipment
Two men have been jailed for stealing an £27,000 excavator from a building site in Cyncoed, Cardiff.
Kevin Price, 34, and Daniel Joseph Davies, 32, were caught on CCTV taking the equipment from Ty Gwyn Gardens on the evening of June 11.
They were identified by officers and handed themselves in at Cardiff Bay Police Station.
Price, from Rover Way, and Davies, from Madoc Road, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on November 22 and were sentenced to 12 and 15 months imprisonment, respectively, for theft. Both men must also pay £1,000 costs.
In September, officers visited building sites and wrote to building companies across Cardiff, particularly the city centre, advising of a recent trend of machinery and plant being stolen from building sites.
Those who own such equipment are reminded to photograph their property, log reference numbers and if possible install a tracker.
In the unfortunate event of a theft, this information will help identify and return stolen property.
