Supporting Our High Streets

There will be fun for all the family in Aberdare on September 26 as the ‘Faberdare’ event helps celebrate Support Your High Street Week. 

Among those performing on stage at Library Square, Green Street, throughout the day will be CG Aero Dance (11.30am); Singer-songwriter Victoria Louise (noon); Studio Streetwise (1pm); Croeso Harmony Singers (2pm) Cover band Threesome (3pm). 

Performance times may vary on the day of the event. 

With FREE parking at all town centre car parks from 10am onwards, other attractions at Library Square, Green Street, include The Laughing Frog Photo Booth, face painting, mascot characters, Rhondda Radio Roadshow and golf activities with Aberdare Golf Club. 

A children’s funfair will be located in Canon Street, along with local trader stalls and rugby skills with Aberdare Rugby Football Club. 

There will be even more market stalls with local traders and craftsmen and women in Commercial Street, along with a Bird of Prey display with Falconry UK. 

Market Street will also be a buzz of activity, with yet another children’s funfair, face painting, mascot characters and the chance to create your very-own wax hands! 

The event is being organised by the Aberdare Business and Tourism Association, in conjunction with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council. 

Cllr Robert Bevan, Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Planning, said; “The Support Your High Street campaign is a Welsh Government initiative which raises the profile of our diverse and vibrant local high streets. 

“Aberdare is a town centre with a great history and a wealth of local talent and ‘Faberdare’ celebrates the valuable contribution local traders make to the Welsh economy as well as the vital role they play in the everyday lives of so many people. 

 “High streets across Rhondda Cynon Taf have a lot to offer to communities and visitors with a diverse range of shops and places to eat and drink. This is backed up by the number of Rhondda Cynon Taf business who have been shortlisted as finalists for the High Street Heroes Awards. 

“Following the Council’s commitment last year to extend the free Christmas Parking initiative throughout the whole of December, this year we have gone one step further and will also be providing free parking in our town centre car parks throughout Support Your High Street week.” 

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has announced free parking in its town centre car parks from 10am onwards until September 26 as part of Support Your High Street Week.
