Success for Cwm Taf University Health Board at the Royal College of Nursing Awards
Cwm Taf is celebrating after winning four accolades at the ‘Nurse of the Year Awards’ hosted by Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Wales last night. (Wed Nov 15)
The top prize of ‘Nurse of the Year’ was handed to Cwm Taf’s Louise Walby, a respiratory nurse facilitator in primary care, who was overwhelmed to have been chosen from among her peers across Wales.
The annual awards showcase and reward the hard work and dedication of nursing staff and are nominated by RCN members.
Louise said:”I was totally surprised to win the ‘Nurse of the Year’ Award. I was honoured to win my category, but when I heard my name called for the overall award I was shocked.
“I am really privileged, honoured and excited about the future and to have this ultimate acknowledgement last night was wonderful.”
There was further recognition for staff when Cwm Taf’s Paul Crank won the Community Nursing Award, Lynfa Day received the Children and Midwifery Award, and Vera Clement was runner up for the Suzanne Goodall Paediatric Award.
Lynda Williams, Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Patient Services, said: “To be nominated for an RCN award is a great achievement in itself, but to win overall ‘Nurse of the Year’ is phenomenal.
“We are so proud of all the nominees to have achieved awards but particularly proud of Louise’s achievement of RCN Wales Nurse of the Year. It demonstrates the excellent compassionate care that our staff in Cwm Taf provides for our patients.
“The awards are well-deserved and a great recognition for the work that they do every day. It’s a true embodiment of ‘Cwm Taf Cares’.”
Fiona Wood, Senior Nurse for Primary Care and Community Resource Team said: “Nursing is leading the way in driving forward innovation and quality improvement within primary care and Louise’s drive, commitment, and passion in the field of respiratory care and management is testament to this.
“To win both the primary care nursing category and the RCN Wales Nurse of the Year award is not only an incredible achievement but richly deserved, we are absolutely delighted.”
Director of Human Resources for Cwm Taf Joanna Davies, who attended the event, said: “It was a great evening and everyone there deserved to win.
“For Cwm Taf staff to come away with four awards is truly fantastic. This is a testament to the dedication shown by our staff.
“Well done to them all.”
