Have your say on the future of diabetes care in Cwm Taf
A new health board wide group is to be established, initially in the Cynon Valley, to give people with diabetes more say over the care they receive.
The Cwm Taf Patient Reference Group will be able to discuss issues it feels are important and to communicate its advice or concerns to the University Health Board.
Robert Williams, director of corporate services at Cwm Taf University Health Board, said: “We are seeking people with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes, the carers or parents of someone with diabetes, to join the group and we are initially targeting the Cynon Valley.
“We are keen that this group develops across Cwm Taf and becomes an influential voice in the future planning and delivery of diabetes care in Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil.”
Wendy Gane, chair of the Cwmbach branch of Diabetes UK Cymru, who will also chair an all-Wales Patient Reference Group, said: “We will be working with Cwm Taf University Health Board to help inform their development of future services.
“It’s so important that people with diabetes have an opportunity to give their views on the services they use and those views can have a real impact. Your voice is important.
“We really need your thoughts about diabetes services and we need those who are interested in being involved to come forward.”
It is expected that there would be a meeting of the group every three months at a local venue.

The call for members to help establish a Patient Reference Group, coincides with national Diabetes Week 2018, from June 11-17.
During the week, from June 11-15, members of Cwmbach diabetes group will be at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon in Mountain Ash with an information stand.
The group recently won an Inspire Award from Diabetes UK Cymru for local and community work to support children with diabetes and their parents (pictured).
