300,000 more children will live in poverty as a result of two-child limit on Universal Credit
Research for the Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) shows that 300,000 more children will live in poverty in the UK because of the two-child limit, by the time Universal Credit is fully rolled out.
CPAG says that the policy breaches the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), because it no longer considers them for entitlement as individuals.
According to CPAG, 43% of children in families with three or more children already live in poverty, compared to 30% of children over all. These children will be made poorer by the policy, CPAG says.
Universal Credit will be fully rolled out in 2023-2024, and Child Action Poverty Group Chief Executive Alison Garnham is calling for the two-child limit policy to be abolished.
