Aberdare Show Getting set for summer
Posted by Lewis on the 22nd June 2010
The Second Annual Aberdare Show is on the 26th & 27th June so time to dust off your fancy dress and sign up for the new look parade . The theme for the parade is “Mardi Gras” with a special section for schools and clubs. Looking at big events like “Rio Mardi Gras” with lots of foot walkers doing moving tableaux. Each group can chose their own theme and have as many members as they need to give a good show. In past years the “Colstars and Ultimate Stage Company” have shown how a tableaux can promote the group so come on everyone and join the fun. The show has taken a blow with the loss of its main sponsor after our report in 2009. A local company offered £2500 in sponsorship; they have backed out and the show is now looking for a new sponsor. No main attractions can be booked without sponsorship. Mr Taylor said on behalf of Aberdare Show Co Ltd it was a sad day when I found out we had lost our sponsor without a backer. We have to tighten up our spending to keep the company viable. The planned “It’s a Knockout” has been put on hold without asking teams to pay £300 entry for the event. There is no way we can afford to do it. We have so much going on. The two days will be the largest show in the Cynon Valley.

I know a lot of people in Mountain Ash have concerns about this Mr Taylor, since he took over the running Cancer Support has had no money from the event at all. I also heard the old committee all jacked it in when he got involved.
I wouldnt put a penny towards this guy, I hope the committee takes this event on again and everyone supports it, as after all it was started to raise awareness and funding for a very good cause!!
I would like to reply to the slanderous comment made on here from “aroundtown”.
I have never been involved with Cancer Support, in any way have not been on a committee or fund raised for them. Some four years ago when the Cynon Valley Committee of Cancer Research UK, where having thoughts of stopping the Annual Carnival. It was then Mr Stephen S Staszewski and I set up Aberdare Carnival and Show Co Ltd. This company would go out and find the money to run the event and any profit after paying all bills would go to the committee. In year one the company was £1500 short then in year two with support of RCTCBC a £174 profit was made in year three £5000 loss on the event. Mr Staszewski then left the company and also the debt which stands at £8500. When the company was set up I used money left to me from my father to pay bills that had to be paid so the event could go ahead. Insurance, printing and other bills this has never been repaid to me. So your unfounded comment is very distasteful. The company has to post its balance sheet this will soon be available on our web site fro all to see. The company dose not make money for charity it makes money to pay the bills. In the three years we paid the bills Cynon Valley Committee Cancer Research UK made more money than previous years as they had no bills to pay. They have never declared how much they made on each event or even said thank you. The company is trying hard to dispose of it debt and hope in three years to be debt free. I have raised money for Cancer since I was 16 and still do I did the 5K walk last year and raised in excess of £250 plus justgiving which is 28p added to each £ from the Government. I can stand and tell people where all the money goes and you will be able to see on our site very soon please have a look. www.aberdare-show.co.uk
