Cynon's Future - Dyfodol Cynon.

Dr Dafydd Trystan Davies was born in 1974 in Aberdare.

He attended Aberdare Welsh School, Penderyn Primary School and Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen.

Dr Davies went on to Aberystwyth University, where he gained a first class honours degree in international politics and was awarded a PhD for his thesis on the Welsh Economy and Globalisation.

He is a former university lecturer, broadcaster and Chief Executive of Plaid Cymru.

He is now development manager for Welsh-medium higher education throughout Wales. He is also the national treasurer of Plaid Cymru.

Dr Davies is married to Lisa Turnbull, herself a former Plaid parliamentary candidate.

Two of his great-grandparents were prominent in the commercial life of the Cynon Valley. J.L. Rowlands co-founded the Aberdare (now Cynon Valley) Leader and Aneurin Davies was general secretary of the Aberdare and District Cooperative Society, later serving on the CWS Board for 25 years and chairing the Cooperative Insurance Society.

He has a historic link with Ynysybwl, which is in the constituency. His great-great-grandfather, John Lewis, stood as a candidate for Undeb Cymru Fydd – part of the old Liberal Party – for a county council election in the village, where he lived, in 1895.

Dr Davies has a number of hobbies, including cycling, playing five-a-side football and squash.

He is member of the advisory board of Sustrans, the sustainable transport organisation, and is on the committee of a Real Food Market organisation.

Dr Davies is a member of the Advisory Board of the Options for Britain project, which was set up to provide a source of ideas for the future direction of Government policy in the United Kingdom after the next General Election.
