Back in Time

Anyone fancy going back in time to experience life in the past.

Would like a go at this myself ,might do a lot of people good to see life way back and what a struggle it was ,may make them realise what a good life most people have now.

Thank you Nerys that was very kind of you, to check, and pass the information on
I found the site, when it wasn’t under authors, I thought it may have been sold, there was a Meir but not Richard Meirs. But when I looked in titles section there it was. Thanks again. I’ll have to tell a friend of mine, he was in the signals attached to the South Wales Borderers, he’s been trying to get the book as well.
The sad part of it Richard Meirs committed suicide not long after we returned to the UK.
I’ll ask my son to check it out and order it. If they still have it, as I don’t have credit cards, and anything I need my son does all that for me.
Happy to help and hope it proves successful. How sad committing suicide, war is an awful thing with so many aftermaths from it. Even today there isn't really too much help around for returning soliders with what they now call "post-traumatic syndrome". Those of us who have never experienced it could never understand or imagine what it must be like. Happily you have survived and obviously lived a long life - and a happy one I hope. More snow forecast for us tonight - will it ever end? One day it will be summer here, car was covered in ice this morning and had to scrape the windows, oh well, one of the down points of living in Edmonton.
Nerys.
My son called today and found that book in Amazon books in England.
I ordered it, it will be despatched within two days.
I look forward to reading it again.
Thank you for your kindness and thoughts.
Summer Time has began here, lets hope the thaw soon sets in for you.
Best Regards

NR3, that is excellent news, perserverance is the name of the game. Happy reading (well, maybe not so happy for you), but fond memories nonetheless. No sign of summer this side of the pond, had to scrape ice off the car windows again this morning. I don't unfortunately have a garage, but do have a remote starter on the car so at least it's warm inside when I get it. Glad your quest had a happy ending. Isn't the internet wonderful.
yes I think you might be right B G when you said about the first Italian to set up shop in the valleys of Wales being named Brachi but I think the Italian spelling is Bracci.
All of those shops afterwards came to be known as Brachi shops and what great service they gave, they were always open till about 10 p.m. always served a nice cup of tea or coffee and delicious icecream and of course heaps of varieties of sweets and chocolate.
In the Fifty's they came out with a new product called Waffles and had the Waffle machine on the counter which was quite a novelty to see them being made. They were nice too, if you could afford one at 3d each about 1 and 1/2 p of today's money. What went wrong ??? ha! ha!
Iv'e never seen a cup of tea or coffee last so long as they did on a Sunday night when you went there to meet up with friends. One cup could last you an hour or more.
The Brachi shops prospered in the valleys and the valleys were richer for having them there.
Long live the Brachi shop I say.
Cymro.
Hey! I'm older than what I hink you know, on reflection I think it was the 40s when those Waffle machines first came to the valleys. My goodness where's the years gone. ?????????? Help.
Cymro.
Hi Cymro
You must have been the lovely lad in short trousers on the doorstep on Penrhys Road lol
Back to the BRACCI the haven of our teenage. never heard anyone say a bad word about them. Some were interned during the war some were sent to Canada and the ship sunk.
Driving from Aberdare towards Hirwaun on the old road, there is a Lidl shop
a few doors away there is a shop and carved above the brickwork of the window , the name Brachi stands out could be Bracci must look next time. Mean to take a photo one day
