Council constant office moves.

If the council want to save money why dont they stop moving staff from office to office/town to town?

They would then save the cost of the actual move itself, as well as save money on new headed paper/compliment slips, etc, every time an office move takes place. Also, the biggest expenditure is paying staff relocation fees. When they move staff further away from their homes – which is what they usually do – those staff then receive relocation expenses for FOUR years. A weekly train ticket for example could cost up to £11 a week, so the council are refunding that for all the staff they move further away for 4 years! That’s roughly £572 for a member of staff in one year, which is not far off £2,300 in 4 years. Multiply that by even just 10 staff and its £23,000 which would not be used if they left staff where they were!

A couple of years ago staff from an Aberdare office were moved to Pontypridd and the staff from the Pontypridd office were moved up to the Aberdare office. Meaning that people living in Aberdare have to travel to Pontypridd and people living Cardiff/Ponty way have to go to aberdare. What for? It did nothing to improve the service being provided. They put staff in God forsaken places such as Ty Elai in Williamstown. Staff morale is lowered everytime they are moved.

Simple answer to save tax payers money – STOP MOVING THE STAFF!

Now, because of all the money they waste, they need to make money in other ways hence the parking meters springing up all over RCT. George Jones, Group Director of Environmental Services, has apparently said that he doesnt care what the public thinks he is doing it anyway. How come he started having the meters put in before the date that public protest (April 28th) was up? Is that legal?

Don’t know much about this but listening to some of the staff working for RCT they are dissatisfied with the constant moving departments around RCT.

(The £23,000 sum seems a lot of money also Ty Elai in Williamstown)

But that’s another storey that will feature prominently on this site in the near future watch this space.

Well thats how much my friend gets reimbursed every week - just under £11. So multiply that by 4 years, and there are a large number of staff being paid relocation so it does indeed add up to a huge figure - one that neednt be spent if the council left their staff where they were to start with.

Get back to the days of Cynon Valley Borough Council or even further back to the days of seperate councils for Mount and Aberdare. Failing that, go with Merthyr. Whoever made the RCT decision should be transported!
