Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Pest Control department do not treat Pigeons

Customer Control no response to my query about eradicating Pigeons from Aberdare Bus Station by fitting pigeon spikes, Pigeon droppings are a health hazard.

I would report it to your Pest Control

“Council Pest Control Officers will deal with pests that are harmful to public health and could affect health and wellbeing. This work takes place in homes, businesses and the surrounding areas. The Council will deal with all pests within a period of three working days.”

But the you’re Pest Control department At RCTCBC “Do not treat Pigeons”
Pigeon droppings soil the environment and damages property. Significant costs can be incurred in cleaning up the environment. These birds are attracted to congregate at places or there are opportunities to roost.

Looking at the above photograph some of the area has been power washed and the constant cleaning by power washing has taken off the powder coating of the door grills on the building.

Not the best outlook for visitors to the town greeted by Pigeon droppings and a dilapidating Bus Station, it looks like bad management of a public building.

What is the real cost of cleaning up Pigeon droppings at Aberdare Bus Station?

Has that area been power washed? Is that a given? Given the rather random pattern of clean area it might well be where the shop mops up then disposes of the water (containing bleach). I have NEVER seen it being power washed. Indeed I've never seen anywhere locally being power washed. Plus those parts of the doors, years old, will be the most handled. Ask first, presume second.

“Thank you from bringing this problem to the Integrated Transport Unit, who are responsible for the bus station in Aberdare. We now realise the problem is greater than just near the cafe area. I have asked for a quote from our contractor who initially did the anti pigeon spikes, to clean up the mess and put spikes throughout the bus station. I hope to get this after the weekend and with issue a works order shortly after.”

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention

Hi Robin
Have you an update on the Aberdare bus Station pigeon problem?

I am glad to confirm that the Pigeon Spikes have now all been put up throughout Aberdare Bus Station. To help with the problem we have also put up "Don't feed the pigeons" signs at bays 3, 6, 9 and 12. I hope you are happy with the efforts of the Integrated Transport Unit and we will continue to monitor the situation during our Bus Station checks.

Thanks

Robin

AberdareOnline Response

You email of the 26 September 2014 says that you have “I am glad to confirm that the Pigeon Spikes have now all been put up throughout Aberdare Bus Station. To help with the problem we have also put up "Don't feed the pigeons" signs at bays 3, 6, 9 and 12.”
As you are fully aware this is not the case, you have not as you say, “Pigeon Spikes have now all been put up throughout Aberdare Bus Station” you have by the café area but not throughout Aberdare Bus Station.

The question is why did you claim to have done something when clearly you haven’t?
Please can you confirm when you will be completing the work you said you were going to do in your email?
