The Go Go Bar

I was recently visiting Aberdare last year after many years living away. The town has changed a great deal and a lot of the old places now gone-sadly! I couldn't help walking around the town and stood opposite what used to be the Go Go Bar in Canon Street in the 60s and the memories of great times came flooding back. It was THE place to go on saturday and Sunday night with fish and chips at Carpaninni's on the way home! Unless you got lucky that is. Wondered if anyone remembers the discos there-I think it was the very first Discoteque in South Wales

I totally agree with you GardenGirl that this was definately a great time to be around and for all the reasons you mentioned. I think from a lot of the replies on this topic there are a lot of people who think back with affection of a better time, without a lot of the heartache we have today. I am glad I was around to see it and experience it-those memories will never fade.
No it well often watched the Comets practicing on a Sunday in the back room of Caparninis.
Ray Meredith was mainly on vocals , Steve Jones - guitar , Tony Taylor lead guitar , Colin Gardiner - Drums , Bass - memory has just failed ! Anyone remember the Mustangs from Barry - used to play in the mem a lot , been reasearching Bystanders who later become Man, Great times 1962 - 1967 . I tried to picture Aberdare Canon Street and all the shops but was there last year and everything has changed so much.
Celts from Cwmaman - Ieuan Jones - lead guitar , Gegsy guitar - they where both regulars in the Ivy Bush with Cliff , they also had a singer now and again called Shelia Edwards from Cwmbach. Ieuan went on to for a 3 piece with a drummer , bass and girl vocalist Jenny and played the club circuit in Wales. Great times they where !
