Aircraft over Aberdare
Posted by Lisa34 from Aberdare on the 9th February 2008
Hi
Whilst out my mother-in-laws to-be back garden in Aberaman earlier this afternoon, I just happend to look up and two huge aircraft happend to be going over, side by side. What an unusual sight. I asked hubby to be and he seems to think they were RAF aircraft. I was quite taken aback by how big these aircraft were. Its such a beautiful day out there today too, I only hope spring is on its way.

I recall the peace of the valley being shattered not by planes but by the American troops coming to Glynhafod, we young lads followed them and sat watching in awe as their practised with live ammunition, one farm ruin was used for target practice with incendiary type mortars. When all was quiet we ventured out to explore and found the flames still burning and with a smelly substance running down the walls, could have been phosphorous or even Napalm and there we were just kids poking it with sticks, no health and safety in those days. The best part was picking over where these American soldiers from another planet had left cartons with gum ect, this at a time when we didn't see any sweets.
We have RAF Jets flying here quite regular as they train around here from RAF Valley sometimes they fly so low you can see their numbers they also fly sometimes in the night make a terrible noise, but suppose they have to train somewhere.
We too have seen these, back about 2 weeks ago, we saw a huge RAF aircraft coming over the Aberaman area going over Cwmaman, we were in Aldi's at the time, lol. It was so low everyone in the shop went to the windows, because you could hear it's humm and everyone in the car park just stopped, stood still, looked up to watch it until it passed over!!!
hi all,yep same down here in mountain ash.really big aircraft in formation heading west to east and vice-versa.only yesterday saw x2 globemasterIII,
usaf aircraft heading east over what we call the 'watchy'.
watched them through binoculars.something big'military' going on i suspect.
i know raf fairford is in an easterly direction from here and it's a usaf base.
anyways, keep an eye folks it's interesting to know about this activity.
rgds,bear.
p.s. do a 'google' for globemaster aircraft these criss- cross the cynon valley
a lot.
I think the x2 globemasterIII are based at Brize Norton ,which is in an easterly direction from the aberdare valley.
We regularly get the Hercules going over here as they are based at Lyneham .
