Hi there I am a new member of aberdareonline and just thought it would be a good thing to start a music thread for people interested in self recorded music or for just listening to musicians home recordings.I lived in Aberdare for 20yrs was born there and played in a local band as a teen growing up I now live in California. I am sure there are lots of musicians there who would like to show their tunes for people to listen too just for the fun of it. So I will start off by posting one of my tunes to see how it goes hope you all join in at some point thx for checking it out. A Night In Arroyo http://www.box.net/shared/0nqirfijc0

Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member, Peter Black has expressed his support for a petition that aims to persuade Radio stations in Wales to commit 10% of their airplay time to local bands in their area.
The petition aims to get 1 in 10 songs played on the Radio to be a track by a local artist who has never had a top 20 album before. The belief is that this will benefit local music, by getting bands more fans and greater followings, and by creating distinctive and diverse regional music scenes. This will lead to a better participation at local gigs, helping local pubs and other venues.
Liberal Democrat Assembly Member Peter Black says:
“I have a keen interest in this petition because I would like to hear the local radio playing more local music”
“There are loads of great local bands out there but unfortunately most of them fail to get the air play they deserve, sidelined by the latest commercial top ten hit”
““Wales has a proud musical history, and I think it is a shame that when I switch on local radio I rarely hear any local songs, in fact most of the majority of the songs seem to be from the U.S.A”
“By supporting local bands we are creating interest and vibrancy in the community, while also stimulating businesses where gigs are played, such as local pubs, which are going through a hard time with this current financial crisis.”
“If you find the proposals of promoting local music of interest and wish to show your support for local music, please go to www.ipetitions.com/helpinglivemusic/index.html and sign the petition.”
Thx Lewis for showing me that petition for the support of local musicians and bands to get some air play on local radio stations. I have a few old friends in Aberdare who are musicians would definately be interested in this.
Even though I live in the states now my musical roots started in Wales many years ago so I think its really great to see a movement for local musicians to show their talent as they should in a more even playtime on air.
Having said that even here local bands struggle to find good gigs and local radio play because the facts are their all owned and run by corporate biggy's I tried a few years ago to get a tune played on a local jazz station no go they pretty much said if your not managed and dont have an agent that they know of forget it. But keep me posted about the petition it sounds very cool indeed I hope people will respond to it and help local music to be heard.
