Moving to Aberdare in March

Right here goes nothing *gulp*
I shall be moving to Aberdare the first weekend in March.
I'm a 52 year old partially disabled woman, who refused to grow up, so grew outwards instead.
My interests are many and varied so I shall just post a couple or three.
I love real Ales so any nice pubs in the area?
I adore motorbikes but alas cannot ride. I read a great deal anything from Stephen King etc to the yellow pages. I cook from various cuisines and have lived in various countries ending up living in Malaysia for 20 years. I've been back in this country for almost eight years now and have been stuck in Cardiff ( ST.Mellons to be exact )
My elderly Parents live in Nelson and I visit them quite often. I spent my early years in Ystrad Mynach heck that place has changed !! :O
Basically what I'm trying to say is I'm hoping to make friends and that I am so laid back I have my own personal wall following me.
Any help that is offered will be gratefully received :D
All the best

Hi, well welcome to Aberdare, its a freindly place so good luck.Hope you will enjoy living in the valleys

Thank you, I'm looking forward to the Move. I've only been to Aberdare twice in my life, once when I had to recite a Poem at some urdd do or something when I was around 10, and the second time was last week to see the house I am moving into. I'll be pretty close to the town centre, bus station, Tesco and the museum , next step will be locating the Library lol :D

I'm not insane, but I think my mind is

What made you choose Aberdooda my friend?

Hi ,Aberdare is quite nice really, but as for shopping not too great, if you go out for entertainment the buses stop at about eleven so check them out, not wise anywhere in the UK to walk alone at night so be sure to book a taxi, (I have found Aberdare safe at night when getting a taxi but as I said its better to call a cab anywhere nowadays) the taxi rank is right by the bus stop in the day, but I think it is by Pound stretchers at night. Tap in your search engine and get a list of taxi services for Aberdare. The bus station serves many areas so great.
Aberdare park bike ROAD RACES are an annual event sometime in July, (my old man lives for them) great event if you like bikes.
The quieter pubs are mainly outside the town centre, at night its mainly for the younger element. Though the market tavern, I think in the day is a stop for all ages because its by the bus stop and serves meals.
Great cafes in Aberdare, lots of them. Don’t really know much about entertainment though. There is a coliseum which does cinema plus shows and has a club as well (dont know what the ale is like though ) perhaps there are others that could be helpfull on Aberdare online
GOOD LUCK HOPE YOU LIKE IT HERE

Fate chose it for me lol.
The house belongs to my niece unfortunately she had a nasty accident last year and is now confined to a wheelchair. She hopes to be out of Hospital soon and has already got a lovely flat that is just perfect for her to get around in her wheelchair and has a room for her carer as well.
I've been stuck in ST.Mellons for 8 years now, and the local yob element, druggies both users and dealers, and the alcoholics (the nasty drunks not the nice ones ) make this street a living hell. I've been asking the housing association to rehouse me for the last 6 years, alas no luck.
I'm not one for cinemas etc, I prefer a good book or to watch a DVD on my PC. I shall be stocking up on all my herbs and spices, so the local Tesco or whatever will be for veg etc.
I rarely go out at night, and if I do I generally stay overnight at mates or my Parents, as I have problems walking any distance.
To be honest I am looking forward to the move, the date should be the 7th of March.
Thanks for all the info about what goes on in Aberdare, I really do appreciate it.
All the Best

Aye i've heard St Mellons can be a bit mad. Mind you, so can everywhere else these days. If you post on here now and again, folk will put you alright with any queries/questions etc that you may have :-)

Welcome. any where these days you will find nutters but the majority of Aberdare people are great.
The library I can help you, if you want books cheaply.
Go to the library's main entrance, as you enter, on the right hand side you will see books for sale, hardback prices Fiction 50 pence, non Fiction £1, from Mills and Boon to talking books whatever, which have been discarded by the library.
If you wish to join the membership is free, they have banks of computers for use by members, also an excellent refference library, I spend hours in there.

I have 3 carrier bags full of books ready to give to local charities shops, if you would like to have them, read them, then pass them to the charity shops, you are welcome.

Hello AelfGwyn
Welcome to the site ,we are quite a friendly bunch on here and we chat about allsorts of things .
Hope you will be happy in your new home .
I no longer live in the Aberdare area but if ever I visit the people are always warm and friendly.

Where ever you live these days there are nutters just have to avoid the areas they frequent.

Good luck to you.

Hi there Beacon Girl
Wife and I were sitting having a coffee in one of the shopping complex I have to visit, with my arm behind my back and my wallet in HER hand,
Got talking to a chap and it turned out he was from Beacon Row round about your age 78 sorry finger slipped,
His father as most did worked,in the pit then on the opencut in Hirwaun or penywaun, But he worked on a farm as a boy, Did not think to get his name.and that was in Brisbane OZ
