Away for Christmas
Posted by Apollomed from Penrhiwceiber on the 12th January 2009
Went away for Christmas again this year which makes it the 3rd year running. I always used to be a traditionalist where Christmas is concerned by staying at home and getting all the usual stress building up to the holiday and spending a fortune on what seems to be nothing after Boxing Day. I nearly had second thoughts this year and stayed home but ended up going to Cornwall and having one of the lovliest scenic Christmases ever-no stress, little expense and just pure chill out. Does anyone else making a point of going away for Christmas??

Glad to hear you had a nice Christmas in Cornwall.
We went away one Christmas quite a few years ago and we enjoyed it very much ,such a change from the usual ones we normally have at home.
Christmas does not quite have the same excitement when you get older,if it was not for the fact that all our grand children live quite near to us I think we would go away most years.
Apollo old chap am I assuming correctly by you having:- "One of the lovliest scenic Christmases ever-no stress, little expense and just pure chill out."..That CurlyL666 was not with you?
We had a great Christmas over in Ireland . Nice to be waited on by my Son and his Partner.went to the beach on Boxing day lovely veiws .i did miss my other Grandchildren thou.
Our Christmas was different this year for sure..we do not celebrate Christmas anymore. We made a trip from Casa Grande to Phoenix AZ for 3 days over Christmas season. Christmas day nothing, just nothing was open except for the local cinema, and as it was raining buckets, we decided to view a movie.."...Benjamin Buttons" with Brad Pitt. Good but strange movie. With nowhere to eat we drove around in the poaring rain and found a 'classic '60's drive-n 'burger joint...When you are hungry you will eat anything, but the hamburger was delicious and the service to the one and only truck parked in the place was excellent. A day to remember!
Well DMJ- he wasn't there but I had security teams sweeping pubs etc before we entered to make sure he was not lurking around and hiding behind barrels etc hoping to spring a free pint off me - he does that kind of thing you know?
I think he must have pulled his usual Christmas stunt by not buying a turkey etc and dressing up in his old clothes and turning up at the local homeless hostel to claim his Christmas dinner. Of course, they give everyone who turns up a present as a matter of goodwill which is the real reason he turns up. The he gives that to his wife Lynne when he goes back home, saying he bought it for her. She got a sleeping bag and shaving kit with Lynx deoderant last year off him!!
Apollomed is the turkey, his neighbours paid for his trip to Cornwall just to get rid of him.
Anyway the remarks of dmj and Apollo no longer hurt as I've been having therapy off the local luny.
And how did Apollo know I gave Lyn a sleeping bag last year?
I've decided not to have a happy new year because I'm a BOB, a Boring Old Bugger.
because she rang me before Christmas to beg if she could come to Cornwall with us. She said anything is better than having to wake in that bloody old sleeping bag on Christmas day!!
