Bin Men say it is like holding a gun to our head of over new terms and conditions

A letter written by a person working for Rhondda Cynon Taf Council published in the Cynon Valley this week.

The letter written by someone at the sharp edge of our refuse collections and is signed Bin Man.

It would appear there is a lack of labour employed at RCT to empty our bins and collect the recycling on time. Green waste left for three days after collection day 3 weeks on 3 separate occasions plus the bags supplied are not fit for purpose and brake up easily for rodents etc to scavenge.

As pointed out in the letter RCT are quick to impose fines if bags are placed out early or not on day of collection, as with Wheelie Bins (not so in a certain street in Aberaman where bins are allowed on pavements 365 days a year)
It would appear that there is real concern over the terms and conditions RCT have put to its employees excluding senior managers.

The letter is quite long and descriptive all I can say I believe the bin man over the councilor in charge of street collections.

There was a letter in the Ponty Obs this week having a go at people who don't put their name to letters. Of course written by someone who is obviously not employed by RCT and so doesn't have to risk any come-backs.

I've had 7 or 8 phone messages from RCT employees wishing us luck with the RCT RAG venture. None have left a phone number or any other form of contact because, as 3 or 4 have said quite clearly, they are afraid of reprisals back at the ranch.

That says so much and these self righteous people who complain about 'Name and Address With-held' need to realise that the fear employees in RCT feel is real and there to be used as a gagging tool. They suffer enough without being singled out for 'special attention'.

After reading the political propaganda that spews out of RCT about 'hard choices' or 'tough love decisions' and all the rest of the plainly ridiculous statements that contradict reality I would rather believe the Bin Man. Good on you mate!

Nothing but praise for the binmen, do a good job, pity our councillors didnt work so hard for less pay

Absolutely - well said.

Graeme.

Our wages structures should be altered to reflect the importance to the community what a particular job is. Bin men would I'm sure be some of the top earners as their contribution is not appreciated until they stop work for a short time which brings chaos to our streets and towns with people crying because of the rubbish build up and the consequent health hazard.

If this new structure came about I bet there would be a few "IMPORTANT" people worried at the loss of their over inflated salaries.

Pay them what they are worth I say.

Absolutely. It's become a bit of a mantra of mine when I ask people who is of more value to them, a home carer, or a bin man, or a nurse, or a meals on wheels lady, or a Chief Executive on £142,000 plus and an additional pension payment of £29,000 a year for his retirement fund. The answer is always the same.

There was a programme on TV (I have it on DVD) some time ago from Blaenau Gwent Council and it was called 'Ban the Boss'. It illustrated all too well that most of them are simply surplus to requirement.
