Dare Valley Country Park

Anyone been to the country park lately. If you do then it's like walking in a mine field of sheep muck. You have to wonder if it is a public park or free grazing for the lazy local farmer.

Perhaps the council should put a sign at the entrace of the car park. ''Welcome to Aberdare, Sheep Shit Capitol of Wales''.

That is a shame last time i went it was beautiful walking round the park.loved it.

I think the word COUNTRY rings a bell ????

When the park was designed it was one of the first in the UK on reclaimed industrial sites. The job they did was fairly rough, at lot has been learnt since. It was called a country park because that is how the planners promoted it. A new piece of country in an industrialised urban area.

Within the park itself there were fields which was rented to local farmers. The boundaries of the park were fenced to keep out sheep. A lot of those fences are now down and look unlikely to be replaced. The farmer has been stopped from using the fields within the park because of the mess.

It seems that the farmer is quite happy to let his sheep graze in the park rather than keep them enclosed in his own fields. Once they are in the park they then wander into Cwmdare and Landare. A few years ago they did a lot of damage.

The park is for the recreation and education for the people of RCT. It is paid for from my council tax. I don't want to supplement a farmer's grazing with my tax, he got a whole mountain to keep his sheep on.

This park is now so dirty with sheep mess that I would not even consider taking my grandsons for a walk there.

Surprised you can see the sheep muck through all the litter.....

and dog muck

The comments on here make me sad but does'nt surprise me a bit.

It's just another Welsh project that is or has been spoiled.

Wales has always had a problem in keeping places clean and tidy as too many locals don't and never have respected the places they live in. Even today with the emphasis on the environment one can see fish and chip papers being thrown down anywhere along with all sorts of other rubbish.

Go around any back lane and you will be shocked at the filth laying around, It saddens me to write this but sadly it is true and mostly have always been true in Wales and the valleys especially. Even dogs won't foul their own abode.

And its not always the kids who drop the litter, adults are the biggest litterers.
