Increase councillor allowances

Is this typical of the Labour Party when a Labour peer says there should be an increase councillors allowances.
There are thousands employed by local authorities all over the country all-waiting eagerly to see if they will have a job in the next few months with out idiots like him around, councillors with deputy’s what next.
What happened to the sheriff of Aberdare anyone know?

Another joke is “he wanted to see more councilors being appointed to scrutinise the work of their authorities”

Councillors are supposed to run the authority therefore they would be scrutinising themselves.

“A call to increase councillor allowances while tens of thousands of town hall workers face redundancy and pay freezes has provoked a political row.
The plea was made by Labour peer Jeremy Beecham, who told a local government conference in Newcastle he wanted to see more councillors being appointed to scrutinise the work of their authorities. This, he argued, should be backed by a new allowance.”

I agree, there should be no pay rise for any politicians at all!!

I know RCT Councillors have voted to freeze their pay until 2012 I think this should be extend and should run until 2015.

As for MP's, well, I think a 5% cut from their pay across the board should help fund other vital services....

Kerching goal in the net

A letter by Pontypridd Welsh Liberal Democrats.

Are Russell Roberts and his Labour cronies ever going to wake up and accept any responsibility at all for the economic situation this Council finds itself in?

Yet again we have been subject to his incessant whingeing in relation to the changes in terms and conditions being imposed upon Council employees. Yes times are hard, yes the Council settlement is not good, but who is to blame?

Cllr Roberts is sitting comfortably on his almost £58K salary as Council leader, plus more than £22,630 as Chair of the South Wales Police Authority, not to mention the expenses he claims on top of that and the cost of the chauffeur driven car to drive him around when he feels the need. He leads a Council where the Chief Executive making these decisions is on more than £140,000 a year.

Yet between them they have not managed to keep the Council in good enough financial order to ride over the rough times.

Of course according to Russell it is all the fault of the evil dark lords in the current coalition Westminster Government. What absolute rot.

Local Government in Wales is devolved, it is the responsibility of the Assembly Government. The LABOUR and Plaid coalition there. They decided on the levels of settlement for Councils, nobody else.

Cllr Roberts should take some responsibility along with his salary

It should be noted that the letter above is from Karen Roberts (chairperson of the RCT LibDems) and although Cllr Michael Powell the leader of the LibDem/Tory group on RCT council voted against extra allowances for councillors who hold positions on council committees, it was he who actually took these allowances and proudly accepts the cash himself, paid into his bank account. As for the 'it's WAG not the ConDems in London' claim that's responsible for the cuts in council spending, she must realise that it's her own political party in London that is implementing the cuts and the Plaid led government in the Welsh assembly have cushioned the blow in Wales by ensuring that cuts to council spending in Wales is less than other parts of the UK. While cuts are being driven by LibDems in London, it's the Labour Party and LibDems who have feathering their own pockets with allowances on RCT council, at the expense of low paid staff.

In Tunisia and Egypt the people are rebelling against an elite who are riddled with corruption, where the gap between rich and poor is obscene, and a large highly educated group of young people are unable to get jobs they studied for.

What they need is a real democracy like ours, eh, where these problems don't exist. Or didn't I read Russel Roberts and the rest of his fellow colluders' payments correctly? I'd like to ask the whole unworthy lot of them: Are we really all in this together? I've got no doubt that they'd stick two fingers up to me and tell me to take a running jump.

The mugs voted for them, and this is what they get.
