Councillor is accused over home proposal.

A FORMER councillor has accused one of his ex-party colleagues of failing to declare an interest in a planning application. Until May, Steve Belzak and Mike Powell both sat as Lib Dem members of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council (RCT).

A friend of Mr Powell’s, Steve Logan, was selected to replace Mr Belzak as the Lib Dem candidate in the Cilfynydd ward, and was elected on May 1. But he was unable to take up his seat because he has a politically-restricted post in the fire service, and a by-election is due to be called.

More local detail...
Mike Powell and Steve Logan became friends in the 1990s when they both served on the management committee of Trallwng Community Centre. Mr Logan signed Mike Powell's nomination Papers in the 1999 Council Elections. Mr Logan was not a member of the LibDems when planning application was decided upon. He joined towards the end of 2003 when the decision to replace Cllr Steve Belzak had been made. Documentation regarding much of this exists because there was an appeal to the Welsh LibDem Party executive which Steve Belzak won.
Leopard and Spots
Planning and dodgy deals behind closed doors in RCT, eh? This sounds very familiar to me.
