What has gone wrong and how?

I have just returned home to Oz from three weeks in Wales. My heart is heavy and I feel rather sick.
The shops, the people, the area all look so dejected, rejected and dilapidated. We found rubbish everywhere and those who we spoke to had little by way of encouraging words.
We as a family were so sorry that we bothered to make the trip, although seeing our old friends was a boost, sadly though they too, without exception stated that the best thing we did was to move to OZ and we as a family agree as the standard of living in OZ makes RCT look even worse than the Stone Age.
Our hearts bleed for you all.

Hi Ianto
Reading your post makes me feel sad to think that the old home town is as you say dilapidated and rubbish strewn. Sadly I too found the same thing the lastt ime I went back to Wales, Seeing the family again was the highlight of our visit but the rubbish problem still existed has it always has done especially in the valleys. It's as if far too many people there just dont care two hoots about their own environment are prepared to live amongs the squalor. Again I would have to agree with you in comparing the standards in Oz with those that exist in Wales. and I wishh I didn't have to say that but the difference is dramatically noticeable.
Where in Oz do you live Ianto, I live in Perth.

Maybe one day attitudes to the environment there might change for the better but don't hold your breath as the valley people have lived with it for so long they accept the rubbish and situation as bing normal
