A pupil from Cwmcarn Primary School, Madeleine Simmonds-Dickens, has been named the winner of Caerphilly Play’s mascot competition, with her colourful panda character set to become the service’s new official mascot, the Caerphilly Play Panda.
The competition invited primary school pupils from across the county borough to create a character that captures the spirit of play, creativity and inclusivity. The winning Caerphilly Play Panda stood out for its vibrant and memorable design, reflecting the energy and importance of play in children’s lives.
The design will now be professionally developed into a full mascot, which will appear at events, across promotional materials and on social media, helping to promote play opportunities and engage with families across Caerphilly.
As part of the prize, Cwmcarn Primary School will receive £500 worth of play equipment. The Caerphilly Play Panda will visit the school to present the prize during a special assembly, giving pupils the chance to see the character brought to life.
This work supports Caerphilly’s Play Sufficiency Assessment, helping to promote the importance of play and ensure children and young people have opportunities to play within their local communities.
Caerphilly Play would like to thank all schools and pupils who took part in the competition. The Caerphilly Play Panda will begin appearing at events and activities soon.
