Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) has contacted AberdareOnline to ask that its coverage of proposed changes to specialist palliative care services include a link to the board’s own public survey.
The request follows our story yesterday — Fight to Save Mountain Ash Palliative Care Ward as Health Board Eyes Closure — which reported on concerns surrounding a proposal to close the eight-bed Ynysdawel Ward (Ward 6) at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon in Mountain Ash and redirect specialist palliative care to hospitals in Llantrisant and Bridgend.
In their message to AberdareOnline, the health board noted that our story directed readers only to an online petition set up by Plaid Cymru, which they described as potentially misleading. They have asked that readers also be pointed to their own public survey, which they say is the formal mechanism for feeding views directly to the board.
CTMUHB’s consultation page — Help shape the future delivery of specialist palliative care in Cwm Taf Morgannwg — sets out the board’s own account of the proposed changes and the reasoning behind them. The board maintains that any changes to specialist palliative care at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon are described as temporary and are subject to the outcome of the consultation.
Residents who wish to make their views known directly to the health board can do so via the official survey on the CTMUHB website: https://ctmuhb.nhs.wales
Those who wish to support the campaign to retain Ward 6 can also still sign the Plaid Cymru petition. Both avenues remain open, and AberdareOnline encourages anyone with a view on the future of local specialist palliative care to use whichever — or both — they feel is appropriate.
