Hirwaun Netball Club Presents, The Iron Maidens.

A bit about myself and the club

I have always enjoyed sports from a young age, I have taken part a variety of sport throughout the years which include rugby, judo, hockey and of course netball. I played Netball throughout my school years up until my thirties where I finished playing for Pontypridd Netball Team to start my beautiful family.

I have 3 children under the age of 9 and have always encouraged them to take part in sport as I feel sport has many good attributes. My children are also very active and have tried various sports but I wasn’t finding much choice for my daughter. She tried football, rugby and swimming which she didn’t enjoy enough to pursue. She has become quite successful at her Gymnastics Club but wanted something else to take part in alongside her gymnastics.

During half-term I saw an advert for a Netball camp which I signed her up for. When I picked her up she was so happy and super excited to tell me all about it. She then asked me if she could join? I tried local netball clubs but they were all full with long waiting lists. The closest one available was over a 30 minute drive. We bought a netball and began playing it in the garden. After a bit of thought and discussions with my daughter we decided maybe we could set one up in the village for her and her friends. I started looking into it and turned it from a thought into reality. Which is where we are today.

At the moment the club is open to children aged 7-8yrs old, currently Year 3 and Year 4 school year. With the vision of more volunteers coming on board, the club growing and more children of different age groups being able to take part.

When we start on 3rd November my aim for the children is to have a season of training and then next year we’ll be fighting fit and ready to join a Netball league. I am a very dedicated and determined person and I’m super excited to see where the club can go.

There are a few spaces left. We’ll be training every Monday throughout term-time at Rhigos Community Sports Hall So if you have a child in Year 3 or Year 4 school year that would like to join please contact Emma George for more information

Please note, you must register before attending
