Gareth Davies MS criticises, yes Cymru March and Plaid Cymru’s independence plans

During Spokesperson’s Questions, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for North Wales, Gareth Davies MS, highlighted the independence march by Yes Cymru in North Wales last weekend. Mr Davies noted that the march took place through some of the most deprived communities in Wales, arguing that these areas need jobs, investment, and regeneration, not disruption from separatist movements.

With a fiscal deficit of around £7,000 per person in Wales, Mr Davies warned that independence would devastate the Welsh economy and inflict unknown damage on communities across the country.

Commenting after Spokesperson’s Questions, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for North Wales, Gareth Davies MS, said:

“Separatist parties like Plaid Cymru want nothing more than Welsh independence, even though it will cost Wales dearly.

“Plaid Cymru’s plans for independence would bankrupt Wales, costing as much as £21 billion in tax annually, or £7,000 per person, per year.

“Wales needs credible plans to improve the economy and help communities thrive. The Welsh Conservatives would abolish Welsh Stamp Duty, cut income tax, scrap business rates for small firms, and reduce rates for town centres, offering the hope that these communities so desperately need.”
