On Monday we hosted our second ‘Race Against Hate’ event at Sobell Leisure Centre in Aberdare.

The event which is part of the National Hate Crime Awareness Week brought together around 100 primary schools and 1,500 pupils from across Merthyr and Rhondda Cynon Taf to run in unity against hatred. It wasn’t just a run – it was an event that demonstrated the collective power of our communities.

Inspector Richard Gardiner said: “We were thrilled to have organised our second version of ‘Race Against Hate’ event where local schools and the community came together and demonstrated their commitment to fighting hate.

“We welcomed around 1,500 children to the event along with teachers, parents, and family members. The theme ‘Race Against Hate’ was to educate and raise awareness around the treatment of everyone in our community regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, age, and disability.

“This event is far more than just a series of races. We commissioned a film, shown in every school, featuring well-known figures from the worlds of sport and entertainment who shared powerful messages of support and kindness. Through this, we reached countless young people — making it not only a chance to run, but to come together as individuals and communities in pursuit of a future free from hatred.”
