The independent fostering agency has unveiled a groundbreaking Virtual Reality programme
designed to put foster parents directly in the shoes of children who are looked after.
Among the first in Wales to harness this cutting-edge technology, the agency is using VR to
revolutionise how empathy and understanding are built, offering a training experience that’s
immersive, emotional, and impossible to forget.
Seeing the World Through a Child’s Eyes
Using a VR headset, foster parents are transported into the life of a child entering the care system.
They experience what it feels like to navigate new homes, meet unfamiliar adults, and cope with the
uncertainty that often accompanies being in care.
“It’s not just watching a video – it’s feeling what a child feels,” explained Hannah Jones, Training and
Development Manager at Family Fostering Partners. “VR allows carers to truly understand the
emotions and fears children experience, helping them respond with deeper empathy and
confidence. It’s a powerful reminder that every child’s behaviour tells a story.”
