Family Fostering Partners Pioneers Virtual Reality Training to Transform Foster Care

Cross Hands-based Family Fostering Partners is bringing the future of foster care training to Wales.
The independent fostering agency has unveiled a groundbreaking Virtual Reality programme
designed to put foster parents directly in the shoes of children who are looked after.
Among the first in Wales to harness this cutting-edge technology, the agency is using VR to
revolutionise how empathy and understanding are built, offering a training experience that’s
immersive, emotional, and impossible to forget.

Seeing the World Through a Child’s Eyes
Using a VR headset, foster parents are transported into the life of a child entering the care system.
They experience what it feels like to navigate new homes, meet unfamiliar adults, and cope with the
uncertainty that often accompanies being in care.
“It’s not just watching a video – it’s feeling what a child feels,” explained Hannah Jones, Training and
Development Manager at Family Fostering Partners. “VR allows carers to truly understand the
emotions and fears children experience, helping them respond with deeper empathy and
confidence. It’s a powerful reminder that every child’s behaviour tells a story.”

Leading the Way in Wales
The new training, launching in early 2026, represents a bold step forward in the agency’s mission to
deliver exceptional support for foster parents and the children they care for. By combining
compassion with innovation, Family Fostering Partners continues to set the standard for fostering
services in Wales and beyond.
“This is about making sure every foster parent feels prepared; not just practically, but emotionally,”
said Jones. “We’re excited to see how VR can spark new understanding and even inspire more
people to consider fostering.”

A Future of Understanding and Hope

Family Fostering Partners believes the introduction of VR training could change the landscape of
foster care support strengthening relationships, improving stability, and giving children the security
they deserve.
However, none of this would be possible without families and individuals who are willing to foster,
