Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Sport and Leisure Services has been named a finalist in the UKactive Awards 2025, one of the most prestigious accolades in the physical activity sector.
The shortlisting, in the Organisational Innovation Award category, recognises the service’s pioneering rollout of Swimtag, making Caerphilly the first leisure provider in Wales to introduce the interactive swimming technology. Now available at four leisure centres across the county borough, Swimtag allows swimmers to track progress, set challenges, and receive real-time feedback, helping to make swimming more engaging and rewarding.
This national recognition follows recent success at the Sport Wales Awards, underlining Caerphilly’s growing reputation for innovation in leisure services.
Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “The UKactive Awards are massively prestigious, so to be shortlisted is a real honour for us. SWIMTAG has already transformed the way our customers enjoy swimming, and this nomination is a tribute to both the dedication of our staff and our ambition to keep Caerphilly at the forefront of leisure innovation.”
The rollout of SWIMTAG supports the Council’s Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2019–2029, which sets out a clear vision to deliver modern facilities and high-quality opportunities for residents to be active.
The winners of the UKactive Awards 2025 will be announced later this year, celebrating organisations and individuals driving excellence in health, wellbeing, and physical activity across the UK.
