2 June 2025 will mark a significant change for local pharmacy users, as Knights Pharmacy is set to take over several Avicenna Pharmacies, including the Aberdare branch on Whitcombe Street.
Avicenna only recently acquired the Sheppard’s Pharmacy Group on 21 April, but the transition was not without issues. Many long-standing customers raised concerns over the level of service at some locations following the takeover. The Aberdare branch, in particular, experienced noticeable disruption.
While frontline pharmacy staff were not blamed directly, it was suggested by another pharmacy worker that problems stemmed from upper management, not the teams on the ground. With Knights Pharmacy stepping in, many in the community are hoping for a much-needed improvement in service and reliability.
Founded in 1984 by Nitin Sodha, Knights Pharmacy began with a government grant and a commitment to improving access to healthcare. Since then, the company has grown into a respected pharmacy group known for prioritising patient care and service quality.
Knights prides itself on building strong relationships with its customers, offering a wide range of services designed to support personal health and well-being. Their trained teams are on hand to offer professional advice and assistance on everything from prescriptions to general wellness.
With this new chapter for Aberdare’s pharmacy services, customers are optimistic that Knights will bring back the standard of care they expect and deserve.
