Abercwmboi Culvert Replacement Scheme at Bronallt Terrace
A culvert replacement scheme will begin next month at Bronallt Terrace in Abercwmboi, after the Council awarded Calibre Contracting Ltd. with the contract for the works.
The scheme is due to start from the week commencing Monday, 17th May and is anticipated to last for a period of six weeks, subject to favourable weather and ground conditions. The works will vastly improve the flood resilience of both the inlet and culvert at the location, and also safeguard the utility services and highway during periods of heavy rainfall – with the area suffering from major flooding during the unprecedented weather of Storm Dennis in particular.
The culvert replacement works will be funded via an approximate £165,000 investment which comprises of funding from both RCT Council and the Welsh Government’s Resilient Roads Fund, and takes the overall cost of flood-related works at this watercourse to over £300,000.
The scheme will see around 12 metres of ageing stone masonry culvert under the B4275 at Bronallt Terrace and the existing inlet headwall replaced, with a new and larger inlet structure and piped culvert installed.
Some disruption is expected locally throughout the duration of the works, through the use of temporary traffic lights to control vehicular and pedestrian traffic in order to ensure the safety of highway users and the workforce.
