Winter Weather Update

The Council is currently ploughing and clearing the main network as a priority and are advising all motorists to avoid travel today (Friday, 2 March). There are varying levels of snow on roads across our County Borough, from a few inches in some areas to several feet in others due to drifting snow.

Some routes had to be abandoned by Highways crews due to conditions but we now have over 20 vehicles out supporting our ploughs, along with staff from our waste, cleansing and parks department, who have also been drafted in to assist with snow clearance.

Please bear with us as we do our best to get Rhondda Cynon Taf safe and moving again.

All You Need To Know:  Inclement Weather Service Changes

Nigel Wheeler, Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council’s Director of Highways and Streetcare, said: “Due to the winter weather, a range of contingency plans have been put in place to minimise disruption to services.

“The priority during periods of snow is to ensure our most vulnerable residents receive the support they need and Council staff, from a number of departments, have been working hard to ensure this is the case.

“For example, our Meals on Wheels team were able to produce and deliver additional meals to cover Friday, 1 March, and the weekend, before the worst of the snow arrived.

“Our Highways and Streetcare Teams are also continuing to work around the clock to treat the network and plough the snow. External contractors have also been brought in to help with this process.

"Residents are reminded to heed all warnings and advice offered by Met Office and Police and to keep following the Council's social media accounts and visiting the winter weather page on the Council's website for latest updates on services."
