Welsh Water closure of Rhigos Mountain Road over Whitsun

Welsh Water requires the closure of the A4061 Rhigos Mountain Road to carry out works following a burst water main last year – and the project has been scheduled for the school half term to minimise disruption.

The closure will be in place from 6am on Tuesday, May 28, and is scheduled to end by 7am on Friday, May 31. An alternative route for motorists will be clearly signposted. Welsh Water has advised that access for emergency service vehicles and pedestrians will not be maintained during the works.

Chris Moore, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s Senior Project Manager, said: “We are carrying out work to resurface the Rhigos Mountain road following the repair of a burst water main towards the end of last year.

“We have liaised with the local highway authority to agree the best time to carry out this work as it has been agreed that a road closure will be necessary while the work takes place.

“This is necessary due to the location of the work, to protect motorists as well as our workforce. To ensure that we keep any disruption to a minimum, the work will be carried out during the May half term period.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank people for bearing with us whilst we undertake these essential works.”

The Council will work closely with Welsh Water to ensure that this work is completed as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The Council will communicate updates about the closure, and subsequent re-opening of the road, using its social media accounts – ‘@RCTCouncil’ on Twitter and ‘Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’ on Facebook.
