Welsh Conservative comment on 13-hour ambulance wait for stroke victim
An 85 year-old man from Mountain Ash had to wait 13 hours for an ambulance after suffering a stroke, leading to fears by his family that he might never fully recover.
David Evans was at his home in late October when he had a stroke, with the first call to emergency services made at 6:45pm. The ambulance did not arrive until 7:45am the following morning.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative and Shadow Health Minister Russell George MS said:
“There is an emergency in Wales’ ambulance service and until the Labour Government in Cardiff Bay acknowledge that, then nothing will change.
“Ambulances are meant to prioritise life-threatening emergencies but strokes do not count as a ‘red-call – this has long been unacceptable as it leaves people frightened with a serious conditions.
“But it goes beyond the ambulance service who are the casualties in overrun hospitals and A&E departments. Sadly, Labour ministers still fail our NHS, pandemic or no pandemic.
“If they hadn’t cut NHS beds by 30% since devolution and brought in Welsh Conservative proposals for diagnostic hubs to handle the Covid-built backlog in treatment, maybe David would not have had to wait over half a day for medical attention.”
