Tour Of Britain Park And Ride

A FREE Park and Ride service will be in place for the Stage 5 start of the Tour of Britain in Aberdare on Thursday, September 8. 

Thousands of people are expected to be at Aberdare Park for the 10.45am start, with all the build-up getting underway from around 9am. 

There will be NO PARKING inside the grounds of Aberdare Park on the day and all motorists are advised to use the Ynys Car Park, Aberdare (CF44 7RP). 

The Tour of Britain Park and Ride service will start at 8am, with the last pick-up at 10.30am. Return journeys will commence after the riders have left Aberdare Park, with return journeys talking place at 11am. 

Stage 5 of the 2016 Tour of Britain will start at Aberdare Park, with all riders travelling through Aberdare town centre, Aberaman, Abercwmboi and Glenboi before heading across Mountain Ash town bridge and travelling along the A4059 to the Abercynon Roundabout.  

The 205-kilometre Stage 5 of the 2016 Tour of Britain will end on the same day in Bath. 

Among those taking part will be Olympic Gold medallists Sir Bradley Wiggins and Owain Doull, along with Olympic Silver medallist Mark Cavendish. The 2016 Tour of Britain is set to feature 10 of world cycling’s elite teams – an impressive line-up of world-class riders. 

It will be the first time for cycling fans to see many of these riders in action since their successes in Rio this summer. 

Cllr Maureen Webber, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Council Business, said: “We anticipate a huge influx of visitors to the area on September 8 to enjoy this truly unique sporting event right here in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

“Aberdare Park is situated within a residential area and we are very mindful of those living in close proximity.

“Our Park and Ride facility in nearby Aberdare town centre will provide all motorists with ample parking and a reliable service in order to get to Aberdare Park to soak up the atmosphere on race day.

 “I hope as many people as possible come along to Aberdare Park on the day to cheer the riders on.”

The Tour of Britain starts in Glasgow on Sunday, September 4.

Stage 5 of the 2016 Tour of Britain will start at Aberdare Park on Thursday, September 8, with the build-up commencing around 9am and the race starting at 10.45am. The 205-kilometre stage will end later in the day in Bath.  

On the day of the race, parking will be strictly prohibited along the route and the Council is requesting that motorists make alternative parking arrangements until the riders pass through the area. 

There will be a Traffic Order in place prohibiting parking along the route between the times of 6am and 11.45am, and any vehicles not complying may be removed. 

Household waste/recycling collections along the race route, which usually take place on Thursdays, will be collected on Saturday, September 10, in order to minimise disruption on the day of the race.  

Trade waste/recycling along the race route, which would usually be collected on Thursday, September 8, will be collected on Wednesday, September 7. Households and businesses affected will have received a letter.
