Statement on Pen Llew Court, Trecynon
Cynon Taf Community Housing Group has had to take the decision to change the use of one of its Sheltered Housing schemes in Aberdare.Pen Llew Court was built in the 1970s and despite the investment of over £2m, almost half of the flats are empty and there is little interest in people coming forward to live there.
Tenants were informed of the plans at a meeting on Thursday 25th January, as well as hearing about the support and rehousing options that will be provided to everyone.
Michelle Reid, Chief Executive of the Group said “This has been a very difficult decision and not one that we have taken lightly. I can assure all current tenants of Pen Llew Court that we will be doing everything we can to find new homes which are suitable to the particular needs and requirements of all those affected by this decision.”
A dedicated team is in place to work with tenants on an individual basis over the next six months. Tenants will also have access to an Independent Adviser as well as intense support from staff.
Following a re-design, Pen Llew Court will become a residential scheme for people with learning disabilities, in response to increasing demand for this type of accommodation in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
