Statement from Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board

The Health Board is meeting in public this morning to receive and discuss the Royal Colleges’ report into maternity services.

The report, which is being published by Welsh Government today, details the findings and recommendations of the review team following their visit to both Prince Charles and Royal Glamorgan Hospitals in January 2019.

The Royal Colleges’ review was commissioned by the Minister for Health and Social Services in October 2018 after the Health Board identified concerns with its internal incident reporting systems.  The Board was notified of these concerns in September 2018 and has been provided with progress updates on the internal review process and actions taken.

Such is the seriousness with which the Board considers the royal colleges’ report that an extraordinary meeting has been convened to coincide with its publication.

A further statement will be issued following the Board meeting.

In line with the royal colleges’ review found here, we have today published an internal report into maternity services. This can be found here.

We understand the findings of the review are likely to cause some distress and anxiety for women and families.
