Staff at GP practice become Dementia Friends

Thirteen members of staff at the Taff Vale GP practice took part in a Dementia Friends training session.

Community Coordinators are working to build links between the voluntary sector and primary care practitioners to benefit patients aged 50+ in the Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil areas and have been supporting the Alzheimer’s Society Cymru Dementia Friends campaign.

Close working with GP surgeries resulted in the Taff Vale Practice, which has a number of surgeries in the Taff Ely area, arranging a training session for their staff.

The session was organised by Gareth Lewis from the Alzheimer’s Society Cymru, for GPs, clinicians and administrative staff.

Dr Jonathan Finnegan, from the practice, said: “The Dementia Friends session was really good and everyone enjoyed it. We all took something away and this has given us more awareness.

“We work closely with Alzheimer’s Society Cymru in ensuring that our patients who are affected by dementia receive information and support.

“The support Alzheimer’s Society Cymru offers our patients with dementia is greatly appreciated by them, their families and all at Taff Vale Practice.”
