Road safety improvements at Cilhaul Terrace, Mountain Ash
The Council will begin works at Cilhaul Terrace in Mountain Ash to extend road safety improvements following a £25,000 Council investment.
The works will take place from the week commencing Monday, February 19, to extend significant safety measures on the Cilhaul Terrace section of Llanwonno Road. The project includes reducing the 30mph speed zone to 20mph, linking the two existing 20mph areas to form one consistent zone.
The changes will encourage lower vehicle speeds and provide a safer environment for pedestrians and motorists. Further measures will include the installation of four sets of speed cushions at regular intervals, as well as one 6m flat-top speed cushion, associated signage and road markings.
The project is scheduled to last up to three weeks, but the duration of the works is weather-dependent. Temporary traffic management will be deployed at Cilhaul Terrace during the works. Where possible, traffic management will be programmed outside of peak hours in order to minimise disruption.
This project has been funded by the Council’s Making Better Use Programme, which has allocated more than £1m for Highway projects in 2017/18.
Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Cabinet Member with responsibility for Highways, said: “These £25,000 works will be delivered by the Council to slow traffic down along Cilhaul Terrace, improving the safety of this narrow road which is a well-used route by motorists travelling between Mountain Ash and Perthcelyn. Residents have lobbied to extend the 20mph zone due to the route being so heavily used by through traffic.
“The works at Cilhaul Terrace will get underway from February 19, and the Council will work to complete this project with as minimal disruption to local residents as possible. I’d like to thank residents in advance for their cooperation while these important works are delivered.
