Positive jobs figures welcomed
Commenting on the publication of today’s unemployment statistics for Wales, the leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies, has said:
“With over 1.4million people now in employment in Wales – the highest level since records began in 1992 – these figures once again demonstrate the success of the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan for Wales.
“However, as the situation with Tata Steel in Port Talbot has demonstrated, there is still plenty of hard work to be done to secure the economic recovery in Wales but unfortunately the Labour Party is not maximising the economic levers it currently has at its exposal.
“Since 2010, Conservatives in government have tackled the economic problems left by the Labour Party and our plan will continue to ensure economic prosperity is delivered for communities the length and breadth of Wales.
“Our long-term economic plan of security, stability and opportunity for people across Wales is in stark contrast to the chaos and incompetence of Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party who will put all of this at risk with high-tax, crash and burn policies dating back to the 1970s.”
Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Business, William Graham AM, said:
“These are more encouraging statistics, which continue to show the effects of the UK’s economic recovery.
“There are now a record number of people in work in Wales which is testament to the continued work of Conservatives in government.
“There is more to do – and in Wales, Labour ministers could be making decisions to further boost that success and properly support business.
“On May 5th we have the opportunity to deliver real change for Wales – a Welsh Conservative Government in Cardiff Bay which would extend rate relief, improve access to finance for businesses and freeze council tax – meaning more money in people’s pockets and more opportunity for jobs growth.”
