Park and Ride Schemes within Rhondda Cynon Taf and the parking of commercial vehicles in a car park in Cwmbach

Thank you for getting in touch to let me know of your concerns about the parking of commercial vehicles in a car park near Cwmbach station.
I am very sorry to learn of your frustration with this issue. However, this car park is not an official park-and-ride facility for our station at Cwmbach. Therefore, as the car park is not owned or run by Transport for Wales, we have passed this case on to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Parking Enforcement team for further investigation.
I note that you have already been in contact with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council about this via Twitter. Please note that our Social Media team would not respond unless they are directly messaged or the message relates to issues that are directly relevant to TfW Rail. Nevertheless, I am sorry if you are disappointed with the lack of response.

In Oct 2017 the Cabinet for Development agreed to progress plans for new Park and Ride Schemes within Rhondda Cynon Taf the leader of the Council Andrew Morgan said, “Cabinet Members agreed that there are good opportunities to expand park and ride facilities at 10 local stations, which would have major benefits for commuters in terms of saving on travel time and fuel costs, as well as reducing congestion on our roads and benefitting the environment.
“We know there is a commitment to enhance rail capacity on the Treherbert, Aberdare and Merthyr lines by 2022, and Cabinet agreed that providing more parking at local stations would represent an important investment from this Council, to help residents take advantage of extra public transport provision.
“The Council was granted funding by the Welsh Government to deliver the successful Porth Park and Ride Scheme which, from September 2016, saw 73 extra spaces provided, which has been well-received locally. It will now be followed by a second phase in 2018/19, which has obtained funding.
“By investing in more Park and Ride Schemes the Council will create improved accessibility to sustainable travel, complementing the Cardiff Capital Region City Deal which is investing heavily in the Metro project to improve public transport across South East Wales.”
Out of the 10 stations put forward include Cwmbach, Fernhill, and Abercynon stations in Cynon Valley almost 4 years on and the only extension to the park and ride in Cynon Valley has been Abercynon, the other 7 stations were Ynyswen, Treorchy, Llwynypia, Trehafod, Treherbert, (Phase 2), Pontyclun and Llanharan – where a combined total of 600+ new parking spaces would be created.
AberdareOnline has been informed that the Mountain Ash hospital is being used as a car park for Fernhill Station, perhaps someone would like to confirm or comment if this is correct. RCTC
