The hospital is to lose its special care baby unit, consultant led maternity and in-patient paediatrics. A&E is to be downgraded.

Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly candidate Mike Powell and his colleagues in RCT fought all the way to try and stop the downgrading of the Royal Glamorgan.

The Labour AM posed for a few photos before falling in line with his colleagues and letting the reorganisation go ahead. The Conservatives weren't interested and UKIP are yet to find out where the hospital is.

Mike says change is desperately needed.

"Welsh Lib Dems have already made a difference. Kirsty Williams More Nurses Bill means there is now a legal minimum level for nurses on wards in Welsh hospitals. "The Health Technologies Fund investing in new treatments was a Welsh Liberal Democrat idea.

"More needs to be done to improve health services in this area and across Wales. The Welsh Labour Government have let us down badly over this as over so many things.

"We are proposing a GP Access scheme that will lead the way to more flexible opening times at local surgeries making it easier and more convenient to get an appointment.

"We want to make sure mental health services are improved with easier access to counselling services for those who need them.

"We deserve more than a second rate service and NHS staff deserve to be given the tools to let them deliver the service they are as keen as us to see."
