NHS operations set to be cancelled

Commenting on the warning from the Chief Executive of the Welsh NHS that winter pressures could see NHS operations cancelled, Darren Millar AM, Shadow Minister for Health, said:

“This worrying warning for the 400,000+ patients stuck on Welsh NHS waiting lists comes as the NHS continues to grapple with the legacy of Labour’s record-breaking cuts to the Welsh NHS budget.

“Welsh Ministers have had all year to prepare for the inevitable winter pressures on the NHS and address the chronic capacity issues in emergency care which cause cancelled operations.

“It is disappointing that Ministers lack the guts to issue warnings such as this and leave it to civil servants to issue bad news.

“Waiting lists have more than doubled under Carwyn Jones’ leadership and cancelled operations will cause even more misery for vulnerable patients this winter.”
