New Community Neuro Service launched at Cwm Taf!

The Neuro Service was developed to improve community services for people living with neurological conditions in Cwm Taf.A group was set up which comprised of stake holders and service users to define the priorities for people who live with neurological conditions.

Malin Falck, consultant clinical psychologist said: “It had been made evident from engagement with users that there was a gap in the current service – it identified that there was a delay with psycho-social support for people to be able to live well with the condition despite their long-term and disabling symptoms.

“Part of the new service was employing two clinicians, a clinical psychologist and an occupational therapist as well as a co-ordinator to deliver interventions and support to people with neurological conditions as well as their carers in their local communities.

“This will make a huge difference to the care that the community receives”.

Two service users Sharon Martin and Ann Jones talked about their journey and experience living with this condition.  Sharon, from the Rhondda Valleys said: “It’s great to have the re-assurance of someone being there when we need them most.  I am really pleased that this service is now available for me and others like me”.

Natalie Heal, occupational therapist said: “This is a great opportunity to maximise individuals independence and to empower and support people with neurological conditions to make the transition to the ‘new me’ after neuro-diagnosis”.

The launch was attended by staff, service users and stakeholders as well as local authority, voluntary and private organisations.
