New agreement to help people facing a mental health crisis

Healthcare Inspectorate Wales and other agencies have today signed up to a new agreement to improve the system of care and support for people in a mental health crisis who are likely to be detained under section 135 or section 136 of the Mental Health Act 1983.

A new Crisis Care Concordat has been agreed today by us, Welsh Government, police forces, the NHS, councils and other agencies.

The crisis care concordat has been set up so that the organisations, who have committed to the agreement, work together to intervene early and if possible, reduce the likelihood of people posing a risk to themselves or others as a result of a mental health condition.

A copy of the Mental Health Crisis Care Concordat is available to download from the Welsh Government website.
