Muni Arts Centre Statement

A council spokesperson said: “The Cabinet has considered the outcomes of the process to secure a sustainable future for the Muni Arts Centre in Pontypridd.

“Through this process individual proposals were received and, following review, five expressions of interests were invited for preliminary discussions earlier this year.

“Following these discussions, two formal business plans were submitted in May and subsequently reviewed by Officers.

“The views and observations of this Strategic Arts & Culture Steering Group, (which comprises of cross-party representation, independent representation from the Arts & Culture sector and a representative from the Arts Council of Wales), alongside the recommendations of Officers in respect of the two business cases, have been considered by Cabinet.

“After considering the detail provided by the process, the Cabinet has agreed to enter into formal negotiations with a preferred provider, Awen Cultural Trust, to secure a positive future for the Muni Arts Centre as a cultural venue.

“The Council recognise the significant public support for the Muni as an Arts venue and the Council is working, within the financial restrains we face at this current time, to support a viable and sustainable future for the facility.”
