Merthyr fashion extravaganza for Macmillan Cancer Support hits all the right notes!

High fashion and high notes were the order of the night at the John Lewis Merthyr Fashion Extravaganza to raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support.

John Lewis Cardiff created the winter catwalk collections for the glamorous event, which took place at the Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre on Thursday 17 November.

The evening began with a performance by Only Men Aloud whose glorious harmonies and upbeat songs were thoroughly enjoyed by all the audience.

Host for the evening fashion show was Ebbw Vale born designer Jeff Banks. Jeff has been at the forefront of British fashion for over five decades and is a long-time supporter of Macmillan in Merthyr, having been involved with the fashion show since 2003.

The event had the support of local community organisations and businesses. ITV Wales reporter Hannah Thomas and writer and broadcaster Carolyn Hitt took to the catwalk for the night.

Prince Charles hospital in Merthyr has a Macmillan Unit which offers vital chemotherapy treatment. And as well as funding specialist cancer nurses, Macmillan funds a welfare benefits adviser, social worker, dietitian, physiotherapist and pharmacist who are also based at the hospital.

Nicola Newhams, Macmillan Fundraising Manager for RCT, Powys, Merthyr and Bridgend, commented: “It was a fantastic night! The ladies of the Macmillan Merthyr Fundraising Committee should take a bow!

“We know that people in Merthyr care very deeply about the services that Macmillan offers and last night’s fundraiser helps to ensure that we can continue our much needed services in the area.”
