At Last Council tackles illegal parking at Aberdare Cenotaph

After years of complaining to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council by local residents providing photographic evidence, the council has at last done something about illegal parking on Aberdare Cenotaph

The Council has completed a scheme to tackle illegal parking at Aberdare Cenotaph, following concerns raised by local residents and businesses.

Having previously stated that parking on the memorial in Aberdare Town Centre was unacceptable, the Council continued to receive information from local people that vehicles were still being parked there – despite the parking restrictions in place continuing to be enforced by the Police and Council.

Therefore, the Council worked closely with the Aberdare branch of the Royal British Legion to find a suitable, permanent solution and announced that ornamental spheres would be installed at the memorial to prevent parking.

Works got underway on Monday, January 22, and have now been completed. In total, 20 spheres were installed on concrete bases. The scheme has cost approximately £15,000 to complete.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Cabinet Member with responsibility for Highways, said: “In response to feedback from local Councillors, residents and businesses, the Council has been able to work with the local branch of the Royal British Legion, and has now completed work on a suitable permanent solution to stop inconsiderate motorists parking on the Aberdare Cenotaph.”
