IPCC to investigate fraud allegations made by Police Federation of England and Wales

he Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) will independently investigate allegations of fraudulent activity reported by the Police Federation of England and Wales.

The IPCC will take over the lead on a criminal investigation originally launched by Surrey Police following a report from the Federation, which has its headquarters in Leatherhead.

Surrey Police arrested four men on suspicion of fraud on Friday 18 March and notified the IPCC. The men have since been released on bail.

The allegations relate to the transfer of around £1million to a charitable account in August 2015.

IPCC investigators are liaising with Surrey Police to arrange the handover of documentation relating to the case.

The men who were arrested by Surrey Police are:

·       Two serving Metropolitan Police Service officers

·       One serving South Wales Police officer

·       One retired Greater Manchester Police officer

Following requests from the IPCC, all three forces formally referred the conduct of their officers to the IPCC.

IPCC Commissioner Jennifer Izekor said:

“We will carry out a thorough independent investigation into these serious allegations.

“The investigation is in its very early stages and we will be working closely with Surrey Police to ensure a smooth handover of the investigative work which has been carried out so far.”
