Group uses power of theatre to deliver innovative dementia training across Wales
A group called Re-Live is using the power of theatre to deliver innovative dementia training aimed at the social care workforce.
The training is based around a bilingual play called Belonging / Perthyd which was written to reflect the real-life experiences of people living with dementia, their families and the working lives of health and social care workers.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS TRAINING?
Enablement teams, care workers, domiciliary care workers, care managers, domiciliary care managers, senior carers, supervisors, day care supervisors, day care workers, social workers, steering groups, strategic officers, volunteers.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Perthyn/Belonging will:
• increase knowledge and understanding about dementia
• remove the myths and stigma surrounding the illness
• address the needs of Welsh language speakers with dementia
• share knowledge about behaviour that can be ‘seen’ as
challenging
• validate the health and social care workers experience
• explore the families perspective and new ways of working with
families
• develop trainees' confidence in connecting with a person with
dementia using non verbal communication skills
• highlight the importance of environment and routine
• promote compassionate communication
• demonstrate the importance of knowing a person’s life story
